After being delayed multiple times, it seems as though Phase 0 of Eth2 could expect a 2020 release. The Ethereum Foundation recently launched the eth2 validator launchpad for the Medalla multiclient test net that is out next week.
Phase 0 Eyeing 2020 Launch?
The crypto spotlight is currently under Ethereum right now. Updates pertaining to DeFi as well as Ethereum 2.0 and the price of ETH has made the network the talk of the crypto town. Despite being delayed multiple times, Ethereum 2.0 seems to be finally on track.
Just a couple of days ago, the developers of Ethereum revealed that the Medalla multi-client testnet would roll out on 4 August. In light of the imminent release of the Medalla testnet, the Ethereum Foundation announced the launch of the eth2 validator launchpad. The foundation’s Eth2 Research Team drafted a blog post, highlighting the reason behind the latest release.
The post suggested that it intends to make deposits while keeping track of the Medalla testnet that is scheduled to roll out next week. Furthermore, the validators were urged to be well-versed with eth2. These validators are expected to carry out the activities like securing the network as well as “receive payouts for actions that help the network reach consensus.” These validators are also rewarded, however, these rewards are more dynamic as opposed to being fixed.
The foundation further pointed out the progress of Eth2 and revealed the status quo of the same.
Additionally, the post shed light on how one could become a validator and the risks as well as responsibilities that come with it.
While the Ethereum community rejoiced the latest boost towards Ethereum 2.0, Co-Founder of Ethereum, Joseph Lubin commented on the recent rollout and tweeted,
The #Medalla Eth2.0 testnet is coming. This is the next big step toward launching Phase 0, so get your testnet ETH ready. The #Eth2Launchpad, a collaboration between Codefi and @ethereum, is designed for easier onboarding to become a validator and stake on the beacon chain. https://t.co/SNyVt7BSfF
The Foundation also suggested that Lighthouse, Nimbus, Prysm as well as Teku, the clients of Ethereum wouldn’t be ready with documentation pertaining to Medalla almost until 4 August, therefore validators could look into these clients. After this, validators can choose a client of their choice to test out.
Previously, the constant delay in the launch of Eth2 aka Serenity was called out by many in the community. As the network is a step closer in transitioning from Proof-of-Work [PoW] to Proof-of-Stake [PoS], many members of the crypto-verse suggested that Phase 0 of Eth2 could roll out in 2020 itself.
