German football giants and defending UEFA Champions League winner FC Bayern Munich are the latest soccer team to be added to the fast-growing Ethereum blockchain-driven fantasy game, Sorare.

Sorare is a fantasy soccer game where players buy, sell, trade, and manage a virtual team with digital playing cards. The game uses the Ethereum blockchain and exists since 2018.

Upon enlisting FC Bayern Munich on the blockchain platform, Sorare players can buy and sell digital cards based on players like Leroy Sane and Robert Lewandowski. Sorare players can also use these football stars in their virtual game line-up to compete with others.

Sorare enables players stockpile unique cards in the form of non-fungible token (NFTs) from different teams. With the cards, players earn points based on each soccer star’s real-world performance that week.

Other Football Teams on the Ethereum Blockchain

FC Bayern Munich is the 100th football club to join Sorare. Many consider it to be the biggest soccer team enlisted on the platform. As the reigning Champions League tittle holder and Bundesliga champion, the club wields significant status and power.

Other top football clubs digitized on the Ethereum blockchain are Juventus, Atletico de Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, and many others

Sorare is also working on a deal with Japan’s J League and the United States’ Major League Soccer (MLS) Players Association.

Currently, top football players – Ligue 1 midfielder Neymar, Serie A striker Cristiano Ronaldo, La Liga goalkeeper Jan Oblak, and Bundesliga defender Sven Bender – are available for selection on the platform. More names are likely to be added in the future.

Sorare Notes Increasing Growth

Following FC Bayern Munich’s digitization on the Ethereum blockchain, Sorare released updated figures confirming the growth of this platform.

Sorare reports a card-based trading volume of over $1 million for October 2020. Between December 2019 and now, over $3.1 million in cards have been sold, while serving 45,000 users globally.

In September, the firm disclosed its intent to launch a United States-oriented push for the game. The US is Sorare’s second-largest market. However, the firm still struggles with certain licenses following the June announcement of the MLSPA agreement.

Sorare CEO Nicolas Julia is convinced the platform is ideal to introduce FC Bayern Munich’s supporters to Ethereum and the benefits of crypto-infused gaming.

Furthermore, he expects that FC Bayern Munich fans will experience a completely different form of fan engagement than ever before.
