Several cryptocurrency projects have very active developer communities. All of this activity takes place on GitHub, either through public or private repositories. Throughout the past 12 months, several top projects note a lot of code-related commits. There will be a lot more of these in the years to come.
The Value of Community Commits
Maintaining the repository and codebase of any cryptocurrency project is a daunting task. Having multiple people contribute to the code and suggest improvements is crucial. The following projects all have a large group of developers contributing code regularly. These commits make these projects more robust and versatile.
As the top Ethereum-based provider of external smart contract data, Chainlink has built up a solid reputation. Its technology offers many different solutions and has become a go-to pillar of the DeFi industry.
On the coding front, Chainlink notes 3,592 commits in the past 12 months. All of this is possible with the help of 61 contributors.
To some, it may seem surprising that Bitcoin is not at the top of the list. It has been around for eleven years and is actively maintained around the clock. Even so, Bitcoin requires fewer “immediate” updates compared to other projects on this list.
Over 100 contributors provided 2,632 commits in the past year to strengthen Bitcoin’s dominant position. It will remain the top cryptocurrency for some time to come.
As a decentralized computing platform, Aelf doesn’t appear to generate too much buzz in crypto circles. Even so, the project still receives regular code updates. With 2,515 commits by 37 contributors in the past year, Aelf seems to be in a good position. Decentralized technology can be applied to many different use cases when done correctly.
Most cryptocurrency enthusiasts who became part of the industry in the past two years will not even know Groestlcoin. It is one of the “older” projects in the space, yet one that receives many contributions from the top Bitcoin coder. Its 2,488 commits are possible with the help of over 100 contributors. Similar to Bitcoin, it also has Lightning Network support.
