Almost $6 billion in cryptocurrency futures contracts were liquidated yesterday as Bitcoin dropped below $48,000.
The exact figure, according to Bybt.com, was $5.65 billion in liquidations, with over 645,000 traders liquidated. More than $2.5 billion of the liquidations came from Binance alone.
Users of cryptocurrency exchange Kraken are demanding refunds following an unusual flash-crash, which resulted in liquidations at extreme prices on Bitcoin and Ethereum markets.
Liquidations on Ethereum were the most extreme, with price cascading down to $700 – a much larger drop than seen on any other exchange.
The State Bank of India, the country’s largest bank, has joined JPMorgan’s blockchain payments system, called Liink.
The network is a fork of Ethereum which is designed to facilitate faster cross-border payments and reduce banking costs.
